KCC presents MANDALA, an Odissi-based solo dance performance by Sooraj Subramaniam, at AMI Arts Festival 2026. A work of art made with care, only to be erased. What remains? Inspired by the ritual of creating and erasing sand mandalas, this performance explores the idea of impermanence through the movements of classical Odissi. Join us for a dance presentation that finds meaning in the act of creation, even when what is created does not last.

Sooraj Subramaniam is an Australian-Belgian dance artist of Malaysian-Indian heritage. Trained in Bharatanatyam and Odissi in Malaysia, he later studied ballet in Australia and Kathak in the UK. His international career includes performances with Akademi, Balbir Singh Dance Company and Shobana Jeyasingh Dance.
His choreographic works include Nocturne, PALLAVI, Reflections of an Indian Dancer and MANDALA. In 2023, he received a nomination for Outstanding Male Classical Performance at the UK Critics' Circle National Dance Awards for his role in Seeta Patel's The Rite of Spring. He continues his Odissi training under guru Bijayini Satpathy, whose practice has been a significant influence on his artistic development.
