Event Details
AMI Arts Festival 2026 brings two musical traditions to the KCC Terrace in an evening that moves from the expressive voice of the sarangi to the poetry and devotion of Qawwali.
The evening begins with Sacred Roots by Momin Khan, an Indo-Fusion performance that places the sarangi at the centre of a musical journey across Indian classical music, Sufi and folk traditions, Bollywood and contemporary influences.
An eighth-generation sarangi player from the Jaipur Gharana, Momin draws on his Hindustani classical training while allowing the instrument to enter different musical worlds. Known for a sound often compared to the human voice, the sarangi becomes the thread connecting traditional forms with newer interpretations.
The evening continues with Meh - e - Qawwali by Danish Hussain & Group, presenting classical Qawwali rooted in the Sahaswan Rampur Gharana.
Through compositions drawing on Awadhi, Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi and Farsi poetic traditions, the performance brings together voice, verse and ensemble around themes of longing, devotion and surrender. The repertoire includes compositions such as “Bahut Din Beetey Saiyan Ko Dekhe”, alongside other forms from the classical and Sufi traditions.
Together, the two performances make for an evening shaped by musical lineages that continue to find new audiences and new contexts.
Momin Khan is an eighth-generation sarangi player from the Jaipur Gharana, trained by his father, Ustad Moinuddin Khan.
An A-grade artist of All India Radio, he is based in Mumbai and performs as part of Arijit Singh’s band, alongside his work as a solo artist. His collaborations include
A. R. Rahman, Pritam, Louis Banks, Ustad Taufiq Qureshi and Sivamani
