Kolkata Centre for Creativity presents Raghunath, a theatre production by Abhimukh, Nagaon, at AMI Arts Festival 2026.
Set in a flood-prone village in Assam, the play follows Raghunath, a grieving father whose daughter loses her life because the village has no bridge to help her reach school safely. Faced with a loss that could have been prevented, he begins looking for a way to draw attention to the needs of his community.
His plan takes an unexpected turn. Raghunath spreads the rumour that an ancient sacred idol has been discovered in his home, hoping that the prospect of a temple will bring the authorities to the village and, with them, the possibility of a bridge, a school and other basic infrastructure.
Moving between personal grief and the realities of life in an underserved village, Raghunath looks at faith, governance, morality and the lengths to which a person might go when ordinary appeals for change are not enough.
The production won six awards at META 2024, including Best Production, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Original Script, Best Light Design and Best Stage Design.
