Kolkata Centre for Creativity presents Ibaadat: Songs of the Sacred by Sonam Kalra, bringing Sufi, Bhakti and Gospel traditions into a single musical conversation.
Guided by sacred texts, poetry and music, Ibaadat looks beyond linguistic and cultural boundaries to explore ideas of devotion and divine unity shared across different traditions.
Rather than presenting these forms separately, Sonam brings them into dialogue, allowing prayer, poetry and melody to move across traditions while retaining the character of each.
The performance creates a space for listening and reflection, centred on the idea that seemingly different spiritual paths can speak to one another through music.
Sonam Kalra is a singer and composer known for bringing different musical and spiritual traditions into conversation through projects including The Sufi Gospel.
She has performed internationally, including at the Sydney Opera House and MTV Coke Studio, and her work has taken her to audiences across 30 countries. Her practice also extends to advocacy around inclusion, equality, education and social justice.
