Event Details
As part of AMI Arts Festival 2026, Kolkata Centre for Creativity presents a research-led session with architect and urban designer Monica Khosla Bhargava, looking at South Kolkata through its built environment.
Architecture is more than the shape of a building. Streets, homes, façades and neighbourhoods can also carry traces of migration, aspiration, memory and social change.
The session invites audiences to look beyond familiar surfaces and consider how South Kolkata’s architecture has acquired meaning through place, time and everyday use. Moving between research and observation, it approaches the city as an evolving archive rather than a fixed collection of landmarks.
Deewaron Ki Bhi Zubaan Hoti Hai asks us to look again at spaces we may pass every day and to consider what their details reveal about the people and histories that shaped them.
Monica Khosla Bhargava is an architect and urban designer, and the Founder and Principal of KHAM Consultants.
A graduate of Jadavpur University, she holds a Master’s in Urban Design from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, and pursued postgraduate studies in Architecture and Development Studies at Lund University, Sweden. Her work spans architecture, urban design, teaching and urban rejuvenation.
