As part of AMI Arts Festival 2026, Kolkata Centre for Creativity presents Montu O Marx, a Bengali production by Ichheymoto, written by Dhrubajyoti Chakraborty.
The play imagines Karl Marx arriving in a Bengali neighbourhood and meeting Montu, a working-class man whose everyday life gives Marx’s ideas an immediate context. Their conversation brings questions of labour, inequality and class out of theory and into the realities of ordinary life.As Montu begins to recognise his own experiences in Marx’s ideas, the encounter also raises a larger question: what do these ideas mean today, and who carries them forward?
Montu O Marx approaches Marx through the life of an ordinary Bengali man, allowing philosophy and lived experience to meet on stage with humour, curiosity and a distinctly local perspective.
