Kolkata Centre for Creativity presents the Kolkata premiere of Besharam Aadmi, a solo theatrical performance by Amol Parashar, written and directed by Vijay Ashok Sharma.
At the centre of the play is a young married man who considers himself progressive and believes in sharing domestic responsibilities with his wife. But when his parents visit, a seemingly ordinary moment, his discomfort at handling his wife’s lingerie in front of them, unsettles that certainty and sends him into an unexpected cycle of introspection.
Through humour and everyday observation, Besharam Aadmi examines the gap that can exist between the values we believe in and the conditioning we carry with us. Questions around gender roles, masculinity, family and relationships emerge from a situation that is at once personal, familiar and revealing.
Funny without losing sight of its subject, the play turns a small domestic hesitation into a larger reflection on what being ‘progressive’ can mean in practice.
Besharam Aadmi is produced by Amol Parashar Live and co-produced by Vyom Charaya.
