Kolkata Centre for Creativity, as part of AMI Arts Festival 2026, presents The Heart Song: Beyond the First Note, featuring Parvathy Baul and saxophonist-composer George Brooks.
Bengali mystical poetry meets the saxophone as the two artists explore stories of life, love, nature and devotion through music shaped by tradition and improvisation.
Rooted in the centuries-old Baul tradition, Parvathy’s practice brings together poetry, music and spiritual discipline. George Brooks approaches the encounter through improvisation and his long engagement with jazz and Indian classical music.
Their musical conversation draws from distinct traditions while opening up a shared space for spiritual inquiry and expression.
Parvathy Baul is a performer, storyteller, painter, teacher and practitioner of Bengal’s Baul tradition. She studied closely with Baul gurus Sri Sanatan Das Thakur Baul and Sri Shashanko Goshai, and has performed in more than 40 countries. She is a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 2019.
George Brooks is a saxophonist and composer known for his work connecting jazz and Indian classical music. His collaborations and ensembles include projects with artists such as Zakir Hussain, Ronu Majumdar and Larry Coryell.
