Kolkata Centre for Creativity presents Something Like Truth, written by Shanta Gokhale and directed by Parna Pethe, at AMI Arts Festival 2026.
Told through four monologues, the play moves across 19th-century France, early 2000s India and post-war Sri Lanka, bringing together women whose lives are separated by geography and history but connected by questions of truth, freedom, justice and personal agency.
Each story places an individual life within a larger social and political moment. The women at the centre of these monologues are faced with different circumstances, but each must negotiate what it means to hold on to her convictions when the choices available to her are shaped by forces beyond her control.
Bringing together spoken word, movement and music, Something Like Truth allows the four stories to unfold independently while also drawing connections across time and place.
The production was selected among the Top 10 plays at META 2026, where Dusha, who performs the role of Zameera, was a joint recipient of the award for Best Actor in a Lead Role (Female).
Parna Pethe is a theatre and film actor, director and producer with over 15 years of experience across experimental, commercial and interdisciplinary theatre.
Her directorial debut, Something Like Truth, has travelled to festivals and venues including the Serendipity Arts Festival, Ranga Shankara, the International Theatre Festival of Kerala, Bharat Rang Mahotsav, the Minerva Festival and Kala Ghoda Arts Festival.
