Uttar Dakshin brings together four esteemed maestros from North and South India to create a magical confluence of Hindustani and Carnatic music. The soulful notes of sitar converses with the melody of the violin, and the powerful rhythm of tabla meets the earthy brilliance of the mridangam, a profound musical dialogue unfolds, transcending geographical boundaries, transforming your evening into an unforgettable, soul-stirring experience.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Pt. Partha Bose – Sitar (Hindustani)
An internationally acclaimed Sitar maestro, Pt. Partha Bose was trained by his Guru Pt. Monoj Shankar of the Maihar Gharana. He is honored with the Pandit Nikhil Banerjee Memorial Award and Sangeet Ratna title, his music is marked by depth, devotion, and a language that is uniquely his own. In 1997, he was invited by the Government of India to lead a cultural delegation to Africa on the Golden Jubilee of India’s Independence.
Dr. Mysore Manjunath – Violin (Carnatic)
A violin virtuoso of rare brilliance, Dr. Manjunath has been conferred with both national and international accolades, including the coveted Sangeet Natak Akademi award. From London’s Royal Albert Hall to the Sydney Opera House, he has carried Indian classical music to some of the world’s most iconic stages. Revered as “The Prince of Mysore”, Dr. Manjunath’s artistic brilliance fuses tradition with bold invention.
Ustad Sabir Khan – Tabla (Hindustani)
Renowned as the Khalifa of the Farukhabar Gharana, Ustad Sabir Khan is the torchbearer of a 34-generation lineage of tabla mastery. Distinguished as a soloist, accompanist, composer, and Guru, he has been honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi award and is devoted to shaping the sound of Indian classical music with his dynamic artistry.
Vid. S. Sekhar – Mridangam (Carnatic)
S. Sekhar is a master of the mridangam, with a career of over five decades. An A-grade artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan, he is a recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi award. He has performed with stalwarts such as Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Dr. Balamuralikrishna, and Kadri Gopalnath, contributed to film scores for Satyajit Ray, Salil Chowdhury, Tapan Sinha, and Gautam Ghose, is a founding member of India’s first fusion band led by Ananda Shankar and a consistent collaborator of Bickram Ghosh’s Rhythmscape.
