Time: 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
Venue: KCC Amphitheatre, 1st Floor
Kolkata Centre for Creativity presents The Maihar Legacy, a sarod recital by Pandit Anindya Banerjee, celebrating the rich lineage of the Maihar gharana.
Through meditative alaap, intricate jod, and dynamic jhala, the performance traces a musical tradition shaped by maestros such as Baba Allauddin Khan. With nuanced phrasing and a deep command over rhythm, Banerjee brings each raga to life, evoking both introspection and intensity. Rooted in discipline and devotion, the recital offers a timeless listening experience while resonating with a contemporary sensibility.
The evening also includes a screening of Banerjee’s documentary Tawaif, reflecting on the resilience, artistry, and often overlooked contributions of women performers in Indian music.
