Kolkata Centre for Creativity, in collaboration with Bichitra Pathshala presents The Art of Popping Up, a hands-on workshop introducing the craft of making pop-up cards and paper booklets. Under the guidance of Pradip Sengupta, Kolkata-based geologist and pop-up artist, the workshop welcomes beginners to learn how simple folds and cuts can help them create a beautiful paper craft. ]
Through demonstrations and guided practice, participants will explore the fundamentals of paper engineering and work towards creating a finished card or mini booklet. Whether you love art, storytelling, or handmade crafts, this workshop offers a relaxed space to experiment and make something uniquely your own.
Paper will be provided by KCC. Participants are requested to bring glue, scissors, and painting supplies.
What You Will Learn:
- The basics of paper engineering, such as folds, tabs, and layers
- How to plan and assemble pop-up cards and mini booklets
- Step-by-step techniques to turn flat paper into 3D scenes
- Create your own pop-up piece or a template to continue at home
About the Facilitator:
Pradip Sengupta is a geologist, science communicator, and bilingual author based in Kolkata. He combines his love for research and storytelling to create engaging learning experiences. One of the pioneering Bengali pop-up artists, he handcrafts 3D adaptations of classics like Sukumar Ray’s Abol Tabol and teaches paper-engineering techniques that turn stories and illustrations into hands-on, interactive creations.
