Kolkata Centre for Creativity, in collaboration with Angasuddhi, presents the Summer Intense Odissi Workshop, an immersive training programme designed for dedicated dance practitioners and emerging artists.
Spanning ten days, the workshop focuses on strengthening technique, refining movement vocabulary, and deepening engagement with the expressive and rhythmic aspects of Odissi. Participants will work closely within a structured learning environment that emphasises discipline, continuity, and embodied understanding of the form.
The workshop is divided into two segments. From 3 to 6 June, sessions will be led by Ustad Bismillah Khan Awardee Shashwati Garai Ghosh, focusing on strengthening foundational technique, body alignment, and movement clarity. From 7 to 10 June, a special advanced segment will be conducted by Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Smt. Sharmila Biswas, introducing participants to deeper explorations of abhinaya, choreography, and interpretative practice.
Across both segments, the programme emphasises rigour, continuity, and an embodied understanding of the form. Participants will engage in intensive daily sessions designed to support both technical refinement and artistic development within a shared learning environment.
The programme concludes on 12th June with Srishti, an informal presentation that reflects the learning and creative journey of the participants over the course of the workshop.
Positioned as both a pedagogical and practice-led initiative, the Summer Intense Odissi Workshop offers participants an opportunity to engage closely with the evolving language of Odissi while remaining rooted in its traditional framework.
