Purnaya: Obeisance to the Absolute

Victoria Memorial Hall in collaboration with Kolkata Centre for Creativity presents Purnaya – a dance performance by the acclaimed Manipuri danseuse Dr Bimbavati Devi, as part of the ongoing solo exhibition The Hidden Moon: An Exhibition of Artworks by Kartick Chandra Pyne (25 February – 30 March 2025) at VMH – bringing together KC Pyne’s paintings from various areas of his practices and phases of his long artistic career.
Rooted in tradition yet pushing artistic boundaries, Dr Bimbabati Devi will weave rhythm, storytelling, and visual art into a captivating dialogue, transforming KC Pyne’s expressive world into a living, breathing performance.
The exhibition and its collateral events are free and open to all; however, normal entry rules will apply.
ABOUT THE PERFORMER
Dr Bimbavati Devi, being the daughter of legendary maestros of Manipuri dance, Guru Bipin Singh and Guru Smt. Kalavati Devi was initiated into the world of dance and music at a very tender age. She has also learnt Pung (Manipuri mridang) playing and the basics of Thang Ta, the martial art of Manipur. She is now engaged in various experimental choreographies based on the various aspects of Manipuri dance. She has performed in prestigious festivals and events all over India and abroad. She is a recipient of various awards of which Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar conferred by the National Sangeet Natak Akademi, Sanskriti Puraskar conferred by the former PM of Delhi and Smt. Sheila Dikshit on behalf of Sanskriti Prarishthan need special mention. In 2020 she received the prestigious Rashtriya Kumar Gandharv Samman from the Govt. of Madhya Pradesh.
