Venue: KCC, Amphitheatre

For Ages: 18 and above

As a part of this year’s AMI ARTS FESTIVAL, Kolkata Centre for Creativity is delighted to host Piyakkad, a searing yet poetic solo performance by renowned theatre-maker Makarand Deshpande and his celebrated Ansh Theatre Group.

At once hilarious, surreal, and deeply unsettling, Piyakkad explores the fragile line between intoxication and liberation. The story revolves around a man who finds truth, illusion, and escape through alcohol, blurring the boundary between reality and imagination. With Deshpande’s trademark mix of absurdist humour, lyrical monologues, and raw emotional intensity, the play becomes both a mirror of loneliness and a doctrine of freedom.

However, Piyakkad is not just about alcohol—it is a layered metaphor for our human condition, a philosophical reflection on dependence, escape, and the fragile complexities of the psyche. Come and join us for this performance, which will be staged entirely as a one-man act, both entertaining and provocative, engaging audiences at intellectual and emotional levels alike.
