In honor of International Women’s Day, KCC presents Naari Shakti – a soulful celebration of the power, resilience, and grace of women through the language of Indian classical music – featuring classical vocals by Vidushi Anjana Nath and Vidushi Dr Kamala Shankar on the Shankar-Slide-Guitar, accompanied by Shri Indranil Mallick and Shri Sandip Ghosh on the tabla and Shri Gourab Chatterjee on the harmonium.

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
Vidushi Dr Kamala Shankar is the first woman Indian classical slide guitarist who is a renowned performer at Hindustani Classical Music recitals, both in India and abroad. Kamala has developed her own unique style of playing the guitar by blending gayaki and tantrakari ang (instrumental technique) with an in-depth knowledge of playing this specialised guitar. recipient of Kumar Gandharva award & Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Academy Award. She has been under the tutelage of Guru Padma Vibhushan Pt. Chhannulal Mishra Ji (Kirana Gharana) of Varanasi. Kamala completed her doctorate in guitar in 1998 from Banaras Hindu University. She is a Top-Graded AIR Artist. Kamala is also the founder Director of Shankara Arts Foundation, a seat for learning music in a Guru-Shishya-Paramparaâ way at Varanasi. The Shankara Music Festival, held every year, is dedicated to the legendary M.S. Subbulakshmi.
Vidushi Anjana Nath is a reputed representative of the celebrated Patiala Gharana of Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan, veteran disciple of Padmabhushan Ajoy Chakrabarty – acknowledged for performances across Canada, UK, and Europe and in top music festivals in India including Harivallabh (Jalandhar), Patiala Utsav, Alladiya Khan Memorial Sammelan (Mumbai), Bihar Sangeet Natak Academy Festival, etc. Guru Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty of Patiyala gharana has guided her for 10 years. She was the topper in Khayal and Thumri in the Competitions organized by the Dover Lane Music Conference, Kolkata the state Music Academy W.B., the Prayag Sangeet Samity Allahabad etc. She is an empanelled artiste of I.C.C.R from 2004. Anjana Nath received the National Award for thumri – “Smt. Girija Devi Puraskar” in 2011 and the "Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi National Award" in 2014 for khayal and thumri. She had performed in the International Music festivals in England, Spain, Germany, Canada and Switzerland, and is a top-grade artiste of All India Radio.
