The ancient textile art of batik – a method of resist-dyeing using wax and dye – remains popular, yet it is quite limited in terms of the medium on which it is used. Join us at KCC’s AMI Arts Festival to learn how to create your own leather wall-hanging using wax and dye in a way that will leave you spellbound by the patterns it creates!
Using leather as the closet alternative to textile will not only widen the application of batik but also help the leather industry by adding value through a new and unique technique.
What we’ll cover:
- How to transfer the layout on leather
- How to apply gum arabic on leather
- How to apply colours on leather.
- How to create the hair crack effect on leather
- How to make a A4 sized wall hanging
What you’ll learn:
You will learn how to create the batik effect on leather and get insights into the process of making leather jewellery and ornaments, thus expanding your knowledge about the importance and widespread uses of the leather industry.
