EXHIBITION | Queering the Six Yards
Date: 3 – 4 December 2024

Through multimedia art, photographs, archival materials, and sarees, this exhibition explores how the saree, a six-yard fabric woven with both tradition and transformation, transcends its historical and societal associations to become a symbol of resistance, gender expression, and liberation for the marginalized. Curated by Dr Debjyoti Ghosh, this exhibition talks about stepping outside societal expectations. It is here to question and to think on different registers. Does the saree’s DNA have any gender of its own? How much of its gendering is enforced on it through societal norms?
