About Anjan Dutt
Anjan Dutt started his career as a director and actor in theatre, producing great European classics, like those of Sartre, Jean Genet, Peter Weiss, Bertolt Brecht, and Heiner Mueller. He won the Best Debut Acting Award at the Venice Film Festival in 1981 for Chalchitra (1980) dir. Mrinal Sen. In 1993, he launched himself as a singer-songwriter with huge success, winning three back-to-back golden discs from the then HMV.
Dutt focused on his filmmaking career from 2004 with highly successful crossover cinema like Bow Barracks Forever, The Bong Connection. Madly Bengali, Ranjana Ami Aar Ashbona, Dutta Vs Dutta. In 2012 he started his own production company and started producing his own theatre professionally. His last feature film on Mrinal Sen, called Chalchitra Ekhon had been completely self-financed and has won the Special Jury Award in KIFF and Best Actor Award in Dhaka International Film Fest.
Last year he started thinking of returning to his first love, the theatre, and started a dialogue with KCC with a modern reinterpretation of a classic by William Shakespeare, currently a work in progress.
