Kalāpravēśikā
Date: 23 - 26 March 2026
Venue: 4th Floor, KCC
Kolkata Centre for Creativity presents the final performance of Kalāpravēśikā, a four-day dance residency conducted in collaboration with Manipuri Nartanalaya and Darpani Dance Academy.
Kalāpravēśikā —meaning an initiation into the arts — is conceived as a space where classical traditions are explored through practice, observation, and dialogue. Over the course of the residency, artists engage in daily riyaaz, reflection, and exchange, allowing audiences to witness the discipline and devotion that sustain classical dance beyond the stage.
The concluding evening brings together two distinguished traditions through performances led by Dr. Bimbavati Devi and Sri Arnab Bandyopadhyay. Emerging from days of intensive practice and artistic exchange, the performances offer audiences a glimpse into the living continuity of India’s classical dance heritage.
Manipuri Nartanalaya, under the guidance of Dr. Bimbavati Devi, will present the lyrical grace and devotional depth of Manipuri dance. Known for its fluid movements and spiritual sensitivity, the presentation reflects the discipline, subtlety, and timeless aesthetics that define this tradition.
This will be followed by Darpani Dance Academy, led by Sri Arnab Bandyopadhyay, presenting a powerful exploration of Odissi. Rooted in precision, expressive storytelling, and rhythmic excellence, the performance highlights the richness of classical vocabulary while honouring a lineage carefully preserved across generations.
Together, these performances celebrate dedication, tradition, and the enduring spirit of Indian classical dance—where heritage continues to evolve through practice, mentorship, and performance.
