Kolkata Centre for Creativity, in collaboration with Gallery Sanskriti, presents In Bloom: A Journey through Five Decades of Shipra Bhattacharya, a landmark retrospective celebrating one of India's most distinctive contemporary artists.
Curated by Ambica Beri and Richa Agarwal, the exhibition traces the evolution of Shipra Bhattacharya's artistic practice over five decades. Conceived as the story of a life, the exhibition moves through different phases of her work—from early explorations of everyday human struggles and community, to deeply introspective portrayals of women, the body, memory, nature, and the fragile relationship between humanity and the natural world.
Across changing themes and visual languages, the human figure remains central to Bhattacharya's practice. Her paintings and sculptures become sites where desire, identity, vulnerability, and lived experience intersect. Rich in symbolism and meticulous detail, her works inhabit a space between dream and reality, revealing quiet acts of resilience and reflection.
In Bloom celebrates not only the remarkable artistic journey of Shipra Bhattacharya but also her enduring engagement with the changing realities of society, making this retrospective a significant reflection on art, memory, and the passage of time.
