On the sacred occasion of Guru Purnima, Kolkata Centre for Creativity invites you to Guru Pranam — an evening steeped in devotion, memory, and melody. This heartfelt tribute honours three towering figures of Indian classical music, whose legacies continue to echo in every note sung and every rhythm played. 

We remember and celebrate: 

  • Pt. A. Kanan & Vidushi Malabika Kanan – Luminaries of Hindustani vocal music, revered for their artistry, pedagogy, and unwavering commitment to the tradition. 
  • Pt. Shankar Ghosh – A visionary tabla maestro who reshaped the contours of rhythm and brought percussive storytelling to the global stage.

  • Pt. Parimal Chakraborty (Tabla) pays homage to his Guru, Pt. Shankar Ghosh, through an expressive solo offering. 
  • Pt. Sanjoy Banerji (Vocal) presents a musical tribute to Pt. A. Kanan and Vidushi Malabika Kanan, supported by vocalists Namami Karmakar and Sumoulika Sarkar. 

Accompanied by Arup Chattopadhyay on tabla and Anirban Chakrabarty & Subrata Bhattacharya on harmonium.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS 

 Pt. Parimal Chakraborty — Tabla Virtuoso 
 A distinguished disciple of the legendary Pt. Shankar Ghosh, Pt. Parimal Chakraborty is celebrated for his profound mastery of rhythm and his refined, expressive style on the tabla. Blending traditional technique with an innovative spirit, his performances are marked by clarity, complexity, and deep emotional insight. With a career spanning decades, he has graced prestigious stages across India and abroad, earning acclaim for his ability to elevate accompaniment into an art form and his powerful solo presentations. Through his artistry, Pt. Chakraborty continues to uphold and expand the rhythmic legacy of his guru, inspiring a new generation of percussionists. 

Pt. Sanjoy Banerji — Hindustani Classical Vocalist 
A torchbearer of the Hindustani classical vocal tradition, Pt. Sanjoy Banerji is known for his soulful renditions, intricate raga explorations, and commanding stage presence. Trained under the eminent Pt. A. Kanan, he has imbibed a rich legacy that reflects in his interpretations of Khayal, Thumri, and other classical forms. His voice carries both depth and nuance, capable of traversing the emotional spectrum with grace and intensity. Pt. Banerji’s performances are not just technical displays but heartfelt tributes to his Gurus, offering listeners an immersive experience that resonates long after the final note.
