Kolkata Centre for Creativity presents From Book to Films: Bibhutibhushan and Satyajit, a panel discussion that explores the relationship between literature and cinema through the works of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay and their cinematic interpretations done by Satyajit Ray.
The session examines how narratives rooted in rural Bengal and everyday life were translated into visual storytelling. It focuses on the process of adaptation, including questions of narrative structure, visual language, and the interpretation of literary detail for the screen.
The discussion also revisits an early phase of creative collaboration linking illustration, publishing, and filmmaking, offering insight into the influences that shaped a significant cinematic journey. Through this, the panel reflects on how literary works travel across mediums while retaining their emotional and cultural depth.
Featuring voices from cinema, literature, and criticism, the conversation brings together different perspectives on adaptation and storytelling, situating these works within both regional and global contexts.
