Kolkata Centre for Creativity is proud to present a special screening of A Fly on the Wall — a deeply personal and thought-provoking short film by acclaimed filmmaker Shonali Bose and co-director Nilesh Maniyar. Known for her internationally lauded works such as Margarita with a Straw and The Sky is Pink, Bose now turns the lens inward to capture the final days of her dear friend Chika Kapadia, who chose physician-assisted death in Zurich after a terminal diagnosis. 

With raw honesty and sensitivity, the film explores themes of mortality, autonomy, friendship, and the human capacity to bear witness. Produced by Ishan Talkies and Lost The Plot, A Fly on the Wall has screened at international film festivals including Busan and MAMI, receiving critical acclaim for its courage and emotional depth. 
 
The screening will be followed by an online conversation with the filmmakers, offering deeper insight into the creative process and ethical questions raised by the film.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS: 

Shonali Bose is an award-winning Indian filmmaker known for bold, emotionally resonant stories. A UCLA and Columbia University graduate, her acclaimed films include Amu, Margarita with a Straw, and The Sky is Pink. With A Fly on the Wall, she explores grief and friendship through the story of her close friend Chika Kapadia. Her work continues to reflect empathy, truth, and human resilience. 

Nilesh Maniyar is an Indian filmmaker—director, writer, and producer—best known for his collaborations with director Shonali Bose. His recent work includes the intimate documentary A Fly on the Wall (2024), co-directed with Bose. The film follows their close friend Chika Kapadia through his decision to pursue a physician-assisted suicide in Switzerland after a terminal cancer diagnosis, capturing his final days and existential reflections .
