Do Kasaai Ki Kahaani

Date: 18 December 2024
Time: 5:30 - 6:15 PM
Venue: KCC Amphitheatre

A patachitra performance in Hindi by Swabhav Meyeder Dol, Do Kasaai ki Kahaani is based on the story of Dharmavyadha (The Righteous Butcher) from the Mahabharata. Narrated through a combination of scroll paintings as well as song, dance and drama, the story moves through a sanyasi with a mighty temper, a forest-dwelling woman with magic eyes, a virtuous butcher, and an ill-fated crane, seeking the root of power and nature of dharma.

In these polarized and turbulent times, this play is an attempt to explore one of the lesser-known stories from our epics, to collectively seek a deeper understanding of vice and virtue, good and evil.

About the Artistes:
Swabhav Natak Dal has been creating theatre with marginalized communities across the country for the past fifteen years, and Swabhav Meyeder Dol was formed in 2021 as an extension of this work. It has now evolved into a small women’s performance collective, completing over 60 shows of their plays ‘Humaare Gaane’, ‘Miss Tiljala’ and ‘Do Kasaai ki Kahaani’ in schools, colleges, NGOs, bustees, courtyards and festivals in and around Kolkata. In this current production, they are joined by Madhushree, a Chennai-based dancer and artist.
