KCC’s AMI Arts Festival brings to you two power-packed performances – a rock opera by Dastaan Live reinterpreting the music of MK Raina’s seminal play Kabira Khada Bazaar Mein, followed by Chandrabindoo LIVE on 19th December 2024.
About Kabira Khada Bazaar Mein:
‘Kabira Khada Bazaar Mein’, an iconic play written by the renowned author Bhisham Sahni, is a fictionalised account of the life of Kabir Das, the 14th-century saint-poet, exploring his philosophy while critiquing societal issues. The play was directed by renowned theatre person and cultural activist M.K. Raina in 1982 and was notable for its brilliant music composed by the Late Panchanan Pathak. M.K. Raina and Baan G (Dastaan Live) came together to reinterpret the visionary music of the play resulting in the creation of 'Kabira Khada Bazaar Mein - a Rock Opera'. This performance retains its core aesthetics and updates the arrangement and instrumentation for modern sensibilities, working with some of the best musicians and theatre practitioners in Delhi.
About Chandrabindoo:
Chandrabindoo (often spelled Chandrabindu), based in Kolkata, is a Bengali band known for satirical, colloquial lyrics, with references to current affairs and cultural phenomena. The band is chiefly popular in Kolkata, and in cities like Delhi and Mumbai that have a large expatriate Bengali population.
