Bibhutibhushan in Translation
An engaging literary conversation that revisits the works of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay for a wider global readership.
The session brings together translator Arunava Sinha, Prof. Abhijit Gupta, and Dr. Doyeeta Majumder in conversation with Trinankur Banerjee. Together, they discuss the nuances and responsibilities involved in translating Bibhutibhushan’s writing from Bengali into English.
Bibhutibhushan’s prose grows from the rhythms of rural Bengal and the philosophy of everyday life. Translating such writing requires careful attention to tone, context, and cultural nuance. The discussion will look at how translators approach these challenges while preserving the emotional and intellectual depth of the original text.
