Kolkata Centre for Creativity presents বাংলা সাহিত্যের আদি ও মধ্যযুগ – শিকড় থেকে প্রাণস্পন্দন (Bengali early & medieval literature – tracing the origins), a 24-week journey into the rich literary traditions that shaped the foundations of Bengali language and culture.
Designed for students, teachers, artists, researchers, and anyone curious about Bengal’s literary heritage, the course offers an accessible and engaging introduction to early and medieval Bengali literature through close reading, discussion, and shared exploration for multiple works.
Across weekly sessions, participants will encounter devotional poetry, narrative traditions, oral storytelling practices, and significant literary movements that continue to influence Bengali culture and imagination. The course creates a space to read, listen, reflect, and reconnect with voices from Bengal’s past.
Led by scholar and educator Suromita Kanjilal, the programme brings together literary study and cultural context, encouraging participants to approach historical texts not as distant material, but as living traditions that continue to resonate today.
The course is designed for participants with a basic familiarity with Bangla and an interest in literature, culture, and history. No formal academic background in literature is required.
