Venue: KCC Amphitheatre
KCC’s AMI Arts Festival 2024 presents KCC Arts Lab 8.0 - Bechara B. B. directed by Suman Mukhopadhyay, in collaboration with Chetana and Tritiyo Sutra. This play, born out of an intensive month-long preparation at KCC, is designed with fragments of plays by one of the most celebrated German playwrights and philosophers, Bertolt Brecht.
This production is a free-flowing performative exploration of Brecht’s life, ideas, politics, and dialectics with selections from the plays The Life of Galileo, Mother Courage and her Children, Schweyk in the Second World War, The Measures Taken, and The Jewish Wife. With the title inspired by one of Brecht’s autobiographical poems “Of Poor B.B.”, the play is the story of an artist and intellectual whose work was considered threatening in his time.
Bechara B.B. is the outcome of KCC Arts Lab 8.0, which aims to support the multidisciplinary art creation by young artists of traditional and contemporary forms, by providing them with the necessary resources, support, and space for exploration and experimentation.
Following the successful premiere of the play in August 2023, where the play paid tribute to Bertolt Brecht, the play was officially selected for the prestigious International Theatre Festival of Kerala (ITFOK) in February 2024.
