Venue: 4th Floor, KCC

Kolkata Centre for Creativity presents Banaras ke Ghaat se Awadh ke Angan tak, an evocative musical evening with Padma Shri Malini Awasthi, one of India’s most celebrated voices in folk and semi-classical music.

Rooted in the traditions of Banaras and Awadh, the performance traces the musical path of North India, where regional dialects, poetry, and lived experience find expression through song. Through renditions in Awadhi, Bhojpuri, Braj and Bundeli, Malini Awasthi evokes the spirit of community gatherings, devotional expression, and storytelling that sustain India’s folk heritage.

Her repertoire spans thumri, dadra, kajri and tappa, genres that carry the emotional textures of everyday life, devotion, and longing. In these traditions, music becomes not only performance but also memory, community, and cultural continuity.

This special evening invites audiences to experience the living spirit of India’s folk music, where voice, poetry, and melody converge to reflect the cultural soul of the Hindi heartland.
