KCC is set to initiate its first ever course on ghazal writing!
This 2-month-long series of classes will delve into the art of composing ghazals, with a focus on poetic structure, themes, and expression, aiming to provide a solid foundation in Urdu, making it easier to advance to higher levels. The focus is on developing speaking, listening and writing abilities in a simple and engaging way with audio-visual aids, practice exercises, and real-life scenarios to ensure effective learning. This course serves as a stepping stone for those who wish to advance further in Urdu language learning, literature, or cultural studies. Participants will engage with selected ghazals and letters from legendary poets, gaining a deeper understanding of their craft and historical context.

WHAT WE’LL COVER:
- Ghalib Explained: A close reading of selected ghazals, exploring their depth and nuances
- Ghalib Ke Khutoot: A study of Ghalib’s letters, revealing his wit, philosophy, and literary brilliance
- Mir Explained: Analyzing selected ghazals of Mir Taqi Mir and his poetic sensibilities
- Jaun Eliya Explained: Understanding the rebellious and melancholic themes in his ghazals and nazms
- Patras Bukhari: Exploring his selected stories, known for their humour and social commentary
- Role-Playing Common Conversations: Practical sessions covering everyday dialogues in Urdu, including shopping, travel, and greetings
- Final Exam: A comprehensive assessment towards the end of the session.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:
Zahid Hossain is a thespian, voice artist, and one of the first few Dastangos from Kolkata. He conducts national and international workshops for school and college students particularly on pronunciation (English, Hindi, and Urdu) and is an active freelancer associated with several theatre groups in Kolkata.
