ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Born in 1987 in Kolkata, Meenakshi Sengupta is a contemporary artist and educator with a practice rooted in traditional Indian painting styles and critical social narratives. A gold medalist from MS University, Baroda, and a research scholar at Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan, Sengupta has exhibited widely across India and internationally — including at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, Art Brussels, and Sunaparanta Goa.

Her work draws upon miniature painting traditions to comment on gender, power, and popular culture — blending historical technique with contemporary wit and irony. She has held solo shows at Gandhara Art Gallery (Kolkata), Sakshi Gallery (Mumbai), and more. Her accolades include the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, Elizabeth Greenshield Foundation Award, and the Nasreen Mohamedi Award. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor of Painting at Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata, and continues to engage actively in pedagogy, cross-cultural residencies, and workshops around the world.
