TRAINING COURSE ON CONSERVATION OF PAPER OBJECTS

The course gave the fifteen participating conservators a historical overview of the different manuscript traditions in the Indian subcontinent and introduced them to the traditional methods of handling and reading manuscripts, paper making, identification of objective signs of deterioration, conservation interventions, and ethical considerations to be considered when attempting to conserve and restore paper objects.

The Asiatic Society, the Indian Museum, and the Manuscript Resource Centre, University of Calcutta. 

TRAINING COURSE ON CONSERVATION OF OIL PAINTINGS 

7–17 Jan 2020 

The course's objectives were to establish an overall understanding of the anatomy of an oil painting, with a thorough knowledge of the materials and techniques involved in its construction. The module also delved into the rich traditions of oil paintings of India and the West. Participants were also taught how to identify the objective signs of deterioration in an oil painting, deliberate on appropriate conservation decisions and prepare a treatment methodology accordingly. 

The group was taken to the Victoria Memorial Hall on an educational tour where they could view some of the finest examples of European oil paintings and interact with the staff of the restoration facility therein.
