Holding Hands, Leaving Traces

Date: 3rd August 2024
Time: 4:30 – 5:30 pm
Venue: KCC 1st floor
At KCC Ramjhol 2.0, a festival celebrating the Rajasthani culture in Kolkata, KCC has arranged a talk on how we can understand the idea of 'touch' in Rajasthani paintings produced between 16th-19th centuries. How can touch help us think about the questions of gender, body, desire and playfulness? How does touch bring out the sensorial understandings of these paintings?
Known for their vibrant colors, undulating lines and magical themes, Rajasthani paintings offer a glimpse into the past in a myriad of ways. To understand their sensorial experiences and delve deeper, register for this talk by Vinit Vyas, an art historian and PhD scholar at the City University of New York whose research focuses on early modern South Asian art.
