KCC Art Fellowship

Stepping into the second year’s journey Kolkata Centre for Creativity is bringing in a unique initiative to uplift and develop the discourse of various disciplines of art for young and emerging practitioners. KCC is offering a fellowship program to support specific research projects proposed by selected young practitioners for a year to develop, explore and present a discourse of their choice.

Purpose of the Fellowship

  • Extend the support to the serious practitioners of new generation as one of the most resourceful support centres in arts’ field.

  • Develop a group of practitioners mentored by KCC in the field of art progressing towards making our KCC fraternity in the world of art.

  • Taking a step ahead as a serious art centre contributing to support, own and publish research papers and projects that will develop new artistic language

  • Develop a group of alumni who will reach to the excellence to mentor the program under the umbrella of KCC for future generation of artists.

  • Publish a research oriented journal with the results of the research projects to uplift the particular discourse of art.

Who can apply

  • Young practitioners from age 21 years to 30 years from the fields of Visual Arts, Music, Theatre and Dance.

  • Minimum experience of practice: 5 years

  • The applicant must have two reference letters from two renowned artists from his/her field of practice to be eligible to apply.

  • Practitioners need to send an abstract of their project proposal in maximum 500 words in order to be eligible to apply for the fellowship.

  • Applicant must have a guide to navigate his/her research and must be submitting a letter confirming the same from the guide.

  • Registered research scholar, full time employee, any fellowship holders from other sources, employee of Kolkata Centre for Creativity or Emami Art will not be eligible to apply.

Process of selection

  • The in-house committee will shortlist the applied abstract.

  • Shortlisted participants will have to send the detailed research plan and the expenditure plan to the Selection panel consisted of eminent practitioners and researchers of the respective fields.

  • Upon an interview the selection panel will choose one fellow in each discipline.

Total Number of fellowships

  • 01 (One) of each from the fields of Visual art, Dance, Music and Theatre. (Total 4)

Responsibility of the fellow

  • Spend the fellowship money only for the purpose of research that includes taking courses/ workshops/ travel/purchase and practice related to the research project.

  • Present two interim work in progress report/ presentation in given dates for the selection panel/ renowned guests.

  • Present a final dissertation of 3000 – 5000 words as the end-product of the research project. or, Present a performance/ exhibition or presentation of any kind along with a dissertation of minimum 1000 words and the final product of the research project.

  • Thoroughly filled up application form.

  • Name and abstract of the research topic in maximum 500 words.

  • Detailed bio of the applicant.

  • Two letters of recommendation.

  • Consent letter of the research guide.

  • Proof of age, academic qualification and experience in respective art field.

  • A power point presentation/ recording/ video link of artistic work of the applicant.

  • Applicant submitted the shortlisted abstract must send their full project in 3 weeks’ notice that will consist the following information. Hypothesis and elaboration Statement of interest in the particular topic Work plan and timeline Expected mode of end report

Cancellation of Fellowship

The fellowship may be terminated at any time during the tenure and the decision of KCC will be final.

  • Submission of unsatisfactory interim research report.

  • Deception of information about eligibility.

  • Misconduct

Amount of fellowship: INR 8000.00 / month x 12 months + INR 4000.00 for the final production/dissertation/exhibition

  • The final production/ dissertation/ exhibition will be reimbursed after the final presentation is done.

  • First instalment (for April –July) will be transferred to the awardee’s bank account after selection.

  • Second and third instalment (August – November and December – March) will be transferred after successful submission of interim report 1 and 2

Last date of submitting the abstract: February 22, 2020 (Extended)
Announcement of short listed candidates: February 25, 2020 (Extended)
Submission of final project: March 10, 2020
Interview and announcement of selected candidates: March 21 – 22, 2020
Initiation of fellowship: April 1, 2020
Date of presenting Interim report 1 July 26, 2020
Date of presenting interim report 2 December 5, 2020
Final Presentation / report date March 28, 2021

Responsibility of the fellow

It is necessary to mention the name of KCC in the time of publication, presentation and any other work related to the topic which awardees have received the fellowship.
